An excellent leader, a problem-solver and an artist all do not have maps or processes that they follow that make them who they are and this is why they are indispensable. There is no clear way to be a linchpin and this is what makes it hard. However, there are general characteristics that make one a linchpin. One of them is to be a well-educated person.
Hard choices...easy life and easy choices...hard life. Essentially, life-long learning is one that makes one develop a unique mentality through books, educational videos and lectures that are non-class-related materials. I say this, not because any materials relate to a university class is not significant or value-added, but because whenever there is a voluntary effort there is skill or concept being developed beyond the normal expectations.
Education is the first and foremost element in teaching one how to articulate speeches/arguments in order to persuade, win or reach a reasonable conclusion based on strong premises. If this happens, then everyone around you wins because you spread the truth or/and valuable knowledge. This makes a person indispensable because of the knowledge he or she has and want to share.
Document your learning because it helps you remember it and analyze it, especially via writing because it makes you think through all the absorbed knowledge. This is highly significant in a situation where a charismatic person hypnotized you; that is, you become more open to suggestions and directions.
Reading as many books as possible in a year is highly important to attain the right education level beyond school to become a linchpin.
