You might wonder why I have this picture above. Well, because I simulated not reality, but the future that upper management of the company I am currently working in needed to improve their efficiency. I thoughtfully utilized a simulation software called Simio in order to wow the vice president (VP) of three distribution centers. He was the focus of my work because if I can impress him, he would be happy of the key results; thus, both my manager and plant director would too. I do all this to go above and beyond the call of duty and feel proud of myself.
The simulation software, Simio, is a tool to make management see the impact of the proposed solutions before implementing them. Additionally, it is a tool to try out new ideas or solutions, evaluate them, answer all "What If" questions and avoid any potential costly mistakes. It costs nothing to assess new ideas. The main reason the VP was impressed because I was able to take him and his team to the future to see how success looks like.
The next time you want or may be need to wow someone of influence like your manager or even CEO, make it easy for management to accept your solution. One of the ways to do this is by having them picture success and you do this by simulating your solutions. In my case, I was able to mimic the current and future states of the system in question and show them the key differences. One of which is the processing time of a work order.
