"How to land a job while lying on bed" would have been out of the question 10 years ago. Getting a job nowadays has never been easier due to the variety of social media websites where one can present his or her biography (vitae) including accomplishments, professional experience, volunteer work and education. So, it all comes down to your online presence or what is often known as your personal branding.

With today's advanced social media network, one can write an article, comment on someone's blog and upload an educational video. All these can make you eventually a social media influencer, however, you do not have to be a social media influencer to be successful or land a job. LinkedIn.com is the most famous professional network where you can look for available positions and where talent acquisition specialists look for job seekers. Thus, you need to make the most out of your LinkedIn profile by including all your achievements, work experience, extracurricular activities, awards, certifications and degrees.

Even though LinkedIn, I think, is the most significant professional network, there are other social media websites that can boost your personal branding. To name a few, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Snapchat and Instagram are all important to leverage your online presence. Including your political opinion about contemporary issues, extremism and uploading unethical or culturally sensitive videos/photos are materials that might prevent you from getting your dream job.

When your linkedIn profile is full of accomplishments and ready to go, many recruiters will reach out to you to present you with an open position that they want to fill in. Your account will stand out among the rest of the job seekers. This is how I landed an amazing job as a consultant back in Chicago, IL. I will admit it, it was hard to understand how Search Engine Optimization (SEO) work in order to increase my linkedIn views.

Here are some tips that you can use to enhance your linkedIn account.

1. You should have at least 500 connections. Connect with people from your school/work whether you know them or not.

2. Write a brief professional bio about yourself that comprises of, but not limited to, quantitative accomplishments and what you can bring to the company.

3. There is a place where you can write a headline for your account. Write some crucial and demanding technical skills that most companies in need of. You can find these skills from different job descriptions.

In summary, making your online presence more remarkable will grab recruiters' attention that will also increase the number of job offers you get and it will make finding the job you want easier. Also, you can use your linkedIn profile to apply for jobs without going to each website to apply.
